European Special Situations, Fund II - SSE II

Bain Capital's SSE II invests in

  • Non-performing loans (bank's portfolios, larger distressed single assets)

  • Special Real-Estate Situations in defined locations and types of assets

  • Purchase of bank's non-core assets

Bain Capital established its presence in London in 2005 and have since established a local presence across our key markets with local offices in eight European countries: U.K. (BCC), Ireland (BCC), Spain (BCC), Portugal (BCC), Luxembourg (BCC), Italy (BCC servicers), Greece (BCC servicers), and Germany (BCPE). Alon Avner, Head of Bain Capital Credit Europe and the SSE Portfolio Manager, joined Bain Capital Credit in 2006 and oversees all European Distressed and Special Situations (“DSS”) activities. Up until 2011, the DSS strategy in Europe primarily targeted corporate single-name opportunities, but in the wake of the GFC, as large financial institutions sought to dispose of non-core and non-performing portfolios of assets, we identified the need to onboard specialized and experienced professionals that could assist in addressing the market opportunity.

The dedicated Special Situations Europe team now comprises 46 multi-national professionals, led by industry veterans dedicated to the investment and workout sides of the business. The team is bolstered by the support and oversight of the global Bain Capital organization incl. the US Real Estate Team.

Bain manages around €8 billion in Europe in this strategy.

Anterion assists in raising an additional (minimum of) €1,250 million.
